Sabbatical grant awarded to Tulsa-St. Paul's
Tulsa-St. Paul's UMC has received a grant of $31,576 to enable Pastor Twila Gibbens-Rickman to participate in the 2009 National Clergy Renewal Program funded by the Lilly Endowment.
"I'm very fortunate to receive this grant for a sabbatical," said Rev. Gibbens-Rickman.
The funds also will provide financial support for two retired pastors who will fill in for her during the two-month program. The grant also will provide for a worship workshop led by John Thornburg, the church purchase of 15 drums, and a Cherry Street neighborhood party.
The intent of Gibbens-Rickman's sabbatical is to be a part of three communities formed around music, the arts, and social justice. She and her family will visit the Iona Community in Scotland, the Greenbelt Festival in England, and Taize Monastery in France—all places where worship is visually and musically diverse.
Tulsa-St. Paul's UMC and Muskogee-First Baptist are the only Oklahoma churches to receive the grants this year.
